Son Takes Mother w/ Alzheimer's Dementia to Explore Her Hometown: Spokane, Washington

Join my beautiful mother Janet and I on a heartfelt and occasionally hilarious adventure as we explore her hometown of Spokane, Washington. I take her to see her childhood home, church, schools, parks and more. Will she remember?

OUR STORY:

- In 2016 my mother was diagnosed with Dementia (and later Alzheimer's Disease).

- In January of 2019 Janet came to live with me in Portland, Oregon as she was no longer able to fully care for her self.

- Her condition continued to decline and in early 2020 I officially became her state certified in-home care provider.

- In the Spring of 2020 I bought and renovated an old Camper Trailer so that I could take my Mother on the last great adventure of her lifetime.

- We took off in late summer and visited: Redmond, Oregon (my hometown), Spokane WA (her hometown), Coeur D'Alene, Mirror Lake and  Sandpoint, Idaho (where my Aunt Lives), Glacier National Park, and Helena, Montana.

- In route to Yellowstone for my mothers 73rd Birthday, we got caught in a windstorm and wreck both our trailer and SUV.

- I ran a GoFund Me Campaign and raised $3,000 to help my mother and I through the challenge time. This allowed Janet to continue to live with me throughout the holidays, otherwise she was going to have to move into a nursing home.

- We spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years together.

- My mother's condition got really bad. She was unable to do anything on her on. I was doing things no son should ever have to do. Neither of us was happy. I pulled the plug and arranged for my mother to move into the home of our choice on February 1st.

- Two days later, on January 26th, 2021 Janet Marie Bruce passed away peacefully in her sleep. My last words to her where "Goodnight mom. I love you."
